In July 2000, Action Health formally became part of Skillshare Africa which led us to change our name to Skillshare International. The combined organisation builds on the strengths of both constituents, maintaining Action Health’s existing projects in India and East Africa as well as Skillshare Africa’s work in southern Africa. Action Health’s specialised experience of work in health in development augments Skillshare Africa’s general experience.

We continue to work with our programme partners, existing and new, to address their needs, working together to build a greater understanding of how we can have a positive impact on development in their country, be it through skills development, project support or organisational strengthening.

Skillshare International works for sustainable development in partnership with the people and communities of Africa and Asia. We do this by sharing and developing skills, facilitating organisational effectiveness and supporting organisational growth.

Skillshare International:

  • recognises the right of people and communities to determine and develop their own future
  • is committed to organisational and individual development
  • believes working in partnership is central to effective economic and social development

Skillshare International aims to assist with the reduction of poverty, develop broad based partnerships, identify innovative ways of meeting the needs of our partners and widen the understanding and awareness of international development work.

We offer different kinds of interventions including skills development, assisting with programme funding for partners, leadership training and coalition building.

We recruit experienced professionals from all over the world to share their skills with people and organisations in Botswana, India, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania and Uganda.

Our development workers and health trainers work with partner organisations in areas such as agriculture, community development, education, engineering, environmental conservation, healthcare, HIV/AIDS, income generation and vocational training.

Skillshare International's role is to provide skills training to local staff, build the capacity of the organisation and promote the use of locally available resources that can be managed by the community after our partnerships end.
