Christians Abroad, as well as offering an Information and Counselling Service
to those considering work in development, also provides a low-cost programme
for the recruitment of personnel with Christian commitment for overseas appointments
in Education, Health, Administration and Agriculture.
Christians Abroad responds to the expressed needs of overseas and home-based
partners requesting the services of personnel from Britain and Ireland when
local resources cannot generally meet that need. The greatest demand is that
for teachers, but occasional requests are also made for medical personnel.
Currently, the medical personnel recruited by Christians Abroad are working
in Cameroon and Kenya. However, we hold requests for medical staff from other
countries too.
Christians Abroad, whilst not the employer, does seek to develop and maintain
a relationship with those it recruits and places, by providing Preparation
Conferences and other training prior to departure, regular correspondence
and visits whilst overseas, and the offer of a reorientation course and further
involvement on return to Britain or Ireland.
Qualifications and Experience
Applications are assessed on their individual professional, personal and
spiritual qualities. In most medical placement a minimum requirement would
be the possession of an appropriate professional qualification and at least
two years experience in a relevant field. The preferable age range would be
between 25 - 55 years, but more important would be evidence of adaptability,
resilience, sensitivity and great inner resources, vital qualities for the
type of placement involved.
Terms and conditions
Local salary and accommodation are sometimes provided. Air fares, medical
and National insurance, supplementary salaries and other benefits are also
sometimes available, though this depends on the conditions offered by the
employer. Placements are sometimes on a 'self-funding' basis where the project
is in an area of great deprivation.
How to apply
Christians Abroad welcomes speculative applications from those that are suitably
qualified, experienced and have a christian commitment. We also advertise
specific posts occasionally and applications to these are welcomed, using
information and application forms that will be provided.
