Concern Universal was founded in 1976 in response to the need of
under privileged peoples throughout the world. The organisation
aims to target those with 'double disadvantages' such as refugees,
the handicapped, AIDS victims etc. and is actively working towards
improving levels of health care, education, nutrition, income generation
and access to resources. This charity also identifies individuals
and groups working at the grass roots of those communities severely
affected by drought, poverty, child mortality, war and water shortage
and then responds to their needs and initiatives helping the community
to develop.
Concern Universal has a field team in ten countries at the current
time (Bangladesh, Malawi, Mozambique, Kenya, Ghana, Guinea, The
Gambia, Colombia, Brazil, Nigeria) and more widely also over 80 projects
in 14 countries across Africa, the Indian subcontinent and Central
and South America.
Opportunities for nurses with this organisation very rarely arise.
(Concern Universal is based in the UK and has no connection with
the Irish organisation called "Concern Worldwide" at a governance
level, though does cooperate with it on various programmes. - see
next page for details of this organisation).
