Expedition Medics Required - for three month voluntary placements on conservation diving projects worldwide. Locations include Fiji, Malaysia, Philippines, Cuba and Honduras. Candidates must be a minimum of one year post registration with A&E experience
Coral Cay Conservation (CCC) is an award winning international conservation
group, operating in the Philippines and Honduras. The company was formed in
1986 and is a non-profit making organisation. Eight marine nature reserves
have been established internationally by CCC, and the company made a very
significant contribution to the Belize Barrier Reef being designated a world
heritage site.
Applicants need not have a scientific background as on-site training is provided
in coral and fish identification as well as survey techniques during the first
week. The minimum requirement is "Novice Diver".
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants are interviewed soon after applying and their suitability assessed
on an individual basis. Each expedition needs a qualified medical officer
(MO) with a recognised nursing qualification or a Doctorate in medicine, with
a minimum age of 21.
The MO's role is to advise the Expedition Leader on all medical aspects and
to care for all minor medical requirements on the island, involving members
of the CCC expedition. Although the MO will be called on to attend medical
problems, their primary task is diving and surveying. The majority of treatment
will be for cuts and minor infections.
No further qualifications are required although applicants need to have a
reasonable level of fitness and must be capable of living in remote, isolated
conditions.
How to Apply
Expeditions continue on a monthly basis each year and Medical Officers are
required for each expedition phase. For details of staff selection and an
application form, please contact CCC on 0208 545 7714 or email a CV to James Sawyer on js@coralcay.org
