- Merlin is an humanitarian organisation, set up to provide medical
relief in the first phase of international emergencies, when the
local infrastructure has broken down and people are at their most
vulnerable.
- Merlin act regardless of race, religion or political affiliation
to support people affected by war or natural disaster, anywhere
in the world.
- Merlin's teams in the field are staffed by volunteers committed
to an humanitarian ideal and with expertise in medicine or logistics.
- Merlin always works within existing local health structures.
Where appropriate, they also try to work with other aid organisations
to provide the most effective assistance.
- Merlin's priority is emergency relief.
Merlin believes that access to healthcare is a fundamental human
right. To uphold this right, as an humanitarian organisation, they
provide medical relief to people suffering as a result of conflict,
natural disaster or epidemic disease anywhere in the world, regardless
of race, religion or political affiliation.
"It's very rewarding to teach safe motherhood
to practitioners who are so keen to learn. The days are varied and
unpredictable: I might be enjoying a dance with the village chief
for the opening of a delivery room or just being sung to in my jeep
by local children."
Mary Holdsworth, former Nurse in Liberia.
