Homerton Hospital NHS Trust was established in 1995. It is an Acute Services trust with 465 beds and 619 nursing staff. The trust gained foundation status in April 2004.
The Homerton Hospital in Hackney provides a wide range of emergency, medical, surgical, maternity and paediatric services. Specialist services are also provided in neonatal care, fertility and neurorehabilitation. It is a modern Hospital which has just completed its latest building programme. The Homerton also has extensive links with City University. Over the last year the Trust has employed
around 1,600 staff and treated 30,000 in-patients and day case patients; 140,000 out-patients; 70,000 patients who attended the Accident and Emergency department and 35,000 patients in the community. To provide these services the Trust has an income of £75 million and has continued to meet all its financial targets.
The Trust has also received considerable recognition from outside agencies. This resulted in the award of a Charter mark for excellence in Gynaecology services, the Investor in People award for achievements in training and developing staff and the Council for Pathology Accreditation gave provisional approval to three of the Trusts's pathology services. The Department of Health also recognised the Homerton's success by giving "Beacon Hospital" Status for both the booked admission programme and patient environment. The Homerton Hospital also received the UNICEF certificate of commitment to baby friendly status, and Homerton was also the venue chosen by the government last year for the launch of its annual report. The Trusts's aim continues to be the provision of high quality health services to those who need them in line with the Homerton's mission statement: 'Keeping the people of Hackney in the best of health; caring for our community, our staff and our hospital'.
