Job overview

The Major trauma ward is one of the four trauma centers in London. We provide nursing care for all trauma patients in the North-West of London. The Major Trauma

Ward is a 19 bedded ward delivering level 1 care to a complex group of poly-trauma patients including intracranial, spinal cord and column injuries, as well as cardiothoracic, vascular, orthopaedic, plastic, general surgery and maxillofacial injuries.

We are a busy and fast paced ward delivers expert care to patients with tracheostomies, chest drains, invasive analgesia and have five beds for patients requiring cardiac monitoring. Our daily multidisciplinary approach to patient care allows us to achieve the best outcomes for our patients, who may be facing life changing injuries as a result of trauma.

You will work as part of the trauma team delivering and ensuring an effective and high quality of care & service is delivered to every major trauma patient.

We are looking for a innovative, driven individual who is passionate about delivering high quality patient centered care to join our trauma team.

Main duties of the job

  • You will work as registered nurse in the major trauma ward at St Mary's Hospital, providing high quality effective and individualised nursing care to a variety of patients.
  • You will care and support patients as they are having treatment and work within the Multidisciplainary Team, liasing with the flow of patients throughout the trauma pathway ensuring gold standard nursing care is provided.
  • You will also be working with the expectation to achieve and promote our Trust Values  and monitor a safe and effective practice, enhance the patient experience,
  • delivering high quality of care from admission to discharge of the trauma patient and contribute to the delivery of the trauma service.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Numeracy, and spoken and written English, to an appropriate standard to fulfil the job requirements (Adult Basic Skills Literacy L2, Numeracy L1)
  • Nursing Degree
  • Registered Nurse with NMC Pin

Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Placements in Trauma, Orthopaedics and or Neurosurgery is desirable

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Good communication skills
  • Teaching. Ability to organise ward activities and to use initiative.
  • Skills required to undertake clinical activity related to speciality
  • Basic IT skills
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of speciality desirable
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the role
