An excellent opportunity has arisen for a full time Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse post within the SACT Outreach Team.

The SACT Outreach Team delivers treatments for Patients closer to home.  This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team providing care closer to home.

Main duties of the job

The Sister/Charge Nurse will be required to provide support to the Senior Sister and work with other colleagues within SACT services.   To take responsibility for the co-ordination of the Closer to Home clinics, including Patient care and skill mix, and the development and support of the nursing staff  in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.

To support with the management of the service including delivery of SACT and patient care, as well as the development and support of the junior staff within the Team.

You will also be required to provide support where required to Oak Road Treatment Centre and staff.

The Sister/charge nurse needs to ensure that they are providing a supportive environment to enable others to develop excellent skills and knowledge within this field. Once established in the role, you will be expected to co-ordinate Outreach Clinics, develop your clinical skills within SACT and teach others. You will also manage staff, their personal development needs and management of attendance.

 We are looking for a dynamic individual who is able to demonstrate initiative and vision in continuing to move the service forward whilst assisting in implementing service changes and developments with a positive impact of patient care. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

GENERAL DUTIES
1.  Provide a supportive role within the SACT outreach sites for nursing, medical and clerical Staff whilst providing cover between the Chemotherapy Services Units. This will include all other SACT outreach sites.
2.  Undertake the nursing care of patients, ensuring privacy & dignity is maintained whilst being aware of physical and psychological needs
3.  To give a clear and accurate update at change of duties and ensure accurate documentation of nursing interventions
4.  To participate in the rehabilitation of patients and give any necessary instructions, including discharge information
5.  Participate in nursing procedures appropriate to the department
6.  Support and assist in the induction/training of junior staff/Health Care Assistant’s acting as mentor to designated staff
7.  To welcome patients to the ward and its routine
8.  Be able to act as ward co-ordinator and ensure the safe and timely management of patients
9.  To liaise with medical and non medical personnel and community organisations
10.  Rotate/ work on ORTC Chemotherapy unit
11.  To highlight areas of improvement/development within the department and undertake relevant projects
12.  To act as support for other ward nurses in relation to chemotherapy care
13.  Safely escort patients to other areas and collect chemotherapy from key departments
14.  Assist in the provision of meals / refreshments for patients whilst meeting their nutritional needs
15.  Assist in the general housekeeping duties of all areas.
16.  Help to maintain a safe environment and report faults/risks etc to the nurse in charge
17.  Liaise with nurse responsible for stores/stationery and ordering and assist in the maintenance of stock levels
18.  Handles patients personal possessions, ensure cash and valuables kept securely
19.  Correct care and custody of controlled drugs and aid the safe storage of medicines and the return of any unused chemotherapy to pharmacy
20.  Assist medical staff with procedures

EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

1.  The staff nurse is responsible for their own personal development and maintaining a personal development plan
2.  To complete the Ward introductory pack and preceptor pack
3.  Complete Cannulation Skills Training and the UKONs Workbook
4.  Annually attend all mandatory study days including Resuscitation, moving and handling and fire safety
5.  To complete level 3 chemotherapy administration programme to administer cytotoxic drugs and educate patients regarding their treatment

3.  Maintain confidentiality with regard to patient information both at work and outside of working hours

6.  To be aware of limitations and utilise the preceptor system for any issues that arise
