Main duties of the job

  • The midwife is responsible and accountable for their own midwifery practice, maintaining high standards of care with evidence-based theory under pinning practice.
  • Work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team with a good understanding of the various roles to ensure appropriate referrals are made.
  • Demonstrate competence in clinical practice and post registration study 
  • Intravenous drug administration
  • Intravenous cannulation
  • Perineal repair
  • Theatre skills, i.e., ‘scrubbing’ and ‘running’
  • Emergency resuscitation of mothers and babies
  • Managing obstetric emergencies
  • Understanding and safely using / maintaining specialised equipment
  • Leading care of women having low risk births
  • To act as an advocate and support for parents

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife (NMC
  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject area
  • Examination of the New born (NIPE)
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of CPD
  • FRSH competency implant insertion
  • Assessor/mentorship course or full SSSA equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 1 year post registration clinical experience working as an RM in the UK
  • Completed preceptorship
  • Mentorship experience as Practice supervisor
  • Experience of working in all clinical settings
  • Experience with Neonatal IV administration and transitional care
Desirable criteria
  • Involvement in quality improvement projects
  • Experience in conducting audits.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate a working knowledge in standard setting and quality management
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to apply research to practice
  • IT skills including MS office, Excel and PowerPoint
Desirable criteria
  • Experienced as take charge or shift lead
  • Management of complaints/ Compliments
  • Ability to demonstrate evidence of line management of non-registrant staff i.e. MSWs
