Preceptorship:

The preceptorship period is the beginning of your journey from novice to expert and is intended to support you to grow in confidence and competence throughout your first 12-month period as a qualified healthcare professional. We offer a tailored induction, monthly supervision and training sessions, and a robust structure of ongoing support. 

Our Wards:

  • Bluebell, Daisy, Rose and Snowdrop acute wards for adults with mental health difficulties
  • Sorrell ward for adults with mental health difficulties who need psychiatric intensive care.
  • Rowan ward for adults with dementia.
  • Orchid ward for older adults with mental health difficulties who need to be assessed.

We’re located in the heart of Reading, and you'll be close to the town's amenities and a serene leafy park. Flexible working opportunities are available according to service need. Typical shift patterns consist of short days (7.5 hours), long days (12hrs), and nights (10.75hrs) and you will be required to work some weekends on a rota basis.

 

Main duties of the job

Comprehensive Patient Care: Ensuring the holistic well-being of our patients is paramount. You will be responsible for assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating individualised care programmes that cater to the clinical, environmental, and social needs of each patient. Collaboration with senior nursing staff members for guidance and direction is encouraged whenever necessary.

Clinical Leadership: You will play a pivotal role in the clinical leadership of our Mental Health ward. This involves coordinating and delivering top-tier nursing care, while actively engaging with other healthcare professionals and support service providers.

Professional Development: As part of your professional growth, you will occasionally take charge of the ward, working under the supervision of senior, qualified nursing staff members or colleagues. This hands-on experience will be instrumental in your journey toward becoming a well-rounded nursing professional.

Continuous Improvement: We are committed to your professional growth.
