Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Advanced Nurse or Paramedic to join our CQC rated ‘Outstanding’ Trust, within our Urgent Care Service. The post is for 27 hours per week.
Our Primary Care Centre is open 7 days a week from 6.30pm until midnight and at weekends from 8am until midnight. Our Minor Injuries Unit is open 7 days a week from 8am until 10pm. Our current vacancy is for a Practitioner/s who is dual trained in Minor Injuries and Minor Illness and is a non-medical prescriber who can cover all shift patterns including weekends and Bank Holidays.
Based at West Berkshire Community Hospital, you will be in a forward-thinking team of GPs, Practitioners, Nurses and Healthcare assistants, providing high quality out of hours care to the local population.
In addition to reviewing patients face to face, there will be telephone triage from the base.
Main duties of the job
- Practice at an advanced level, working as an autonomous practitioner within the MDT to deliver high quality urgent care to patients.
- Take responsibility and be accountable in assessing, diagnosing, treating or referring patients.
- Review patients face to face within our unit.
- Undertake telephone triage work and telephone advice calls
- As an independent prescriber, prescribe medicines in accordance with NMC/HCPC guidance and national policy.
- Request and interpret tests appropriate to patient’s needs.

- Registered Nurse/Paramedic
- Post Registration Advanced Clinical Practice or have completed 2 or more clinical skills modules
- Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP)

Essential criteria

- To have undertaken accredited courses which enable Advanced Practitioner registration

Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial post registration experience and two years’ experience working at band 7 or equivalent
- Experience of working in primary or community health setting
- Experience of complex case management
- Demonstrate a high level of clinical skills
- Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and experience of clinical examination, history taking, pharmacology, pathophysiology, etc
- Experience of instigating and interpreting investigations and initiating appropriate plans of care for patients
- Experience of promoting self-care
- Cultural awareness
- Experience of multi-agency working across service interfaces
