The Perinatal Mental Health Service provides a Multi-disciplinary specialised care throughout the West Midlands, to treat mothers with mental health problems, both during pregnancy and in the first year post-partum. There is also community outreach team as well as 10 inpatient bedded Unit at the Barberry. The NHS Long Term Plan (LTP) will see perinatal services expanding its remit to seeing approx. 10% of the birth rate, seeing women for up to 2 years postnatally, expanding its offer to partners and providing an increasingly comprehensive range of therapies to women and their families.
Perinatal Team East is a community team, who provide specialist perinatal service for women living in the North and East of Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield, who are experiencing moderate to severe mental illness during the perinatal period.
Main duties of the job
Applicants will need to have a genuine interest in working with women and families in the perinatal period, have excellent communication and multi-agency liaison skills and a have good knowledge of safeguarding. Experience of working in the Perinatal Mental Health field is desirable but not essential. Candidates must have access to a vehicle for work purposes. This is a full time position; we will also consider applicants interested in part time hours.

- Mental Health Practitioner professional registration,
Desirable criteria
- Post registration training in perinatal mental health.
- additional training in mental health interventions, DBT approach, CFT, CBT
Knowledge/ Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in an adult mental health service.
- Understanding of the role and responsibilities of care co-ordinator under Care Programme Approach.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a community mental health setting.
- Experience of working with women and/or parents in mental health setting.
Personal Qualities
Essential criteria
- Flexible approach to managing workload.
- Shows an interest in the nature of Perinatal Mental Health issues.
- Demonstrates enthusiasm, drive and motivation for the role.
