An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate, committed and experienced leader to join our Learning Disability Liaison team at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Trust  in Sandwell as a Nurse Manager. We are looking for someone with strong leadership skills and an understanding of the support needs of people with learning disabilities and other co-morbidities which may include behaviour that challenges others and mental health needs. The nurse manager will work in collaboration with other members of the multi-disciplinary team and will be committed to high quality health outcomes for people with learning disabilities at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHs Trust.

Main duties of the job

To act as a Clinical Nurse Specialist within the area of Learning Disability (children, young people, and adults). 

 

The post holder will be a member of, and make a significant contribution to, a multi-disciplinary team including clinical psychologists, liaison psychiatrist and Learning Disability nurses, contributing to the development of holistic care of children, adolescents, and their families at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

 

The post holder will also provide support to women with a learning disability who access our services at Birmingham Women’s Hospital site.

 

To hold continuing responsibility and effective management of the learning disability pathway case load, ensuring recovery focused specialist health interventions are delivered to children, young people and women with learning disabilities in a multi-disciplinary team.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Nursing Qualification RLDN
  • Evidence of relevant post basic education to degree level or Specialist qualification in a relevant area of practice.
  • Teaching/mentoring qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Qualifications in child & adolescent psychiatric nursing

Knowledge and Nature of Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of child protection and teaching and assessing.
  • Able to demonstrate significant post registration experience in learning disability/psychiatric care at band 6 level or above.
  • The ability to use expert communicate skills effectively and sensitively with children of all abilities /ages and families/carers
  • A sound knowledge of psychological, emotional and social needs of children and young people
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with Minority ethnic Children and young people

Analytical and Judgement Skills

Desirable criteria
  • Participate in local and national LD death reviews
  • Analyse information as part of LD death reviews and make recommendations, as appropriate, both locally and nationally

Professional/Managerial/Specialist Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Attend and participate in LeDer forums
  • Report deaths of LD patients
  • Able to use IT equipment to produce reports
Desirable criteria
  • Trained in LeDer and Child Death Review

PERSONAL SKILLS / ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES

Essential criteria
  • Ability to liaise with other professionals and agencies, building constructive, effective & supportive relationships
  • Ability to work as a team member and alone, good administrative and time management skills
  • Good report writing skills
