Main duties of the job

As a Bank ODP, your responsibilities will include :  

  • Participate in all aspects of clinical operating department work
  • Provide a high standard of patient care and safety in accordance with the North Bristol NHS Trust philosophy and objectives, policies and legal requirements.
  • Ensure duties are carried out in accordance with the advisory guidelines and practice set out in the HCPC/ NMC code of conduct.
  • Deputise for the Team Leader when required/experience allows.
  • Being responsible for assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of patient care
  • Take responsibility for the supervision and guidance of other staff including healthcare support workers and students, as required.

Applicants must:  

  • Be a qualified ODP with current license to practice or a Registered Nurse with a recognised post graduate anaesthetic qualification
  • Minimum of 15 months post new qualification experience. (3 months preceptorship and then 12 months acute experience) 
  • Have recent acute hospital experience within the last 18-24 months 
  • Have a drive to work hard, enthusiasm and the ability to commit to a 4-day induction programme if successful 
  • Have right to work in UK (with relevant Adaptation/ONP if applicable) 
  • Have the ability to commence work within 3 months of offer

Person specification

Education/Training/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered ODP or Registered Nurse with recognised post graduate anaesthetic qualification
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching and assessing qualification (998 or equivalent)

Work Experience

Essential criteria
  • Candidate will have undertaken training for extended roles required by the ward / department. i.e. IV drug administration, Cannulation, venepuncture, ECGs, male catheterisation, PCA and Epidural training.
  • Experience at Band 5 across a range of surgical specialties
  • At least 1 years relevant and recent experience of acute environment

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Basic computer / IT skills and expectation to develop these in line with the needs of the service i.e. IHS, Acis, email use
  • Effective communication skills, verbal & written, to include report writing and record keeping
