Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of a small well-established Colorectal Cancer CNS Team in a friendly and supportive work environment. The post holder will be part of a dynamic team playing a pivotal role in leading and delivering the colorectal cancer service and will be a key member of the team in delivering high quality patient care.

The successful candidate would be working as part of the wider colorectal multi-disciplinary team within the Surgical and Cancer directorate. It is a busy, friendly, team who are passionate and committed to the care of colorectal cancer patients in order to provide a prompt and seamless service. The role of the colorectal cancer CNS includes providing information, advice and support for colorectal cancer patients, and those close to them, at all stages of their disease, including pre and post any surgical intervention, which may include stoma formation, and during oncology treatment.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated candidate who can demonstrate the appropriate knowledge and skills to join our team, where we are committed to ensuring that patients are at the centre of our service. 

Essential requirements are: 

RGN with a degree is required or working towards is required.

Oncology experience is desirable.

A knowledge of colorectal surgery is desirable.

You must have excellent communication skills and be able to work independently and as part of a team. 

 

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to practice autonomously and demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge in relation to the care of colorectal patients. The post holder will run nurse led clinics, provide ward based education and facilitate effective health care delivery. Leadership, innovation, motivation and excellent communication skills are essential as is the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

The ability to be flexible and organised in the workplace with a passion for delivering a quality and successful service is essential. We are looking for a committed, enthusiastic, innovative and flexible individual with the ability to work in a potentially demanding and diverse workflow and to work on his/her own initiative, as a member of a growing team. We work collaboratively with the BRI Colorectal CNS Team to maintain high standards of practice and positive patient experiences, there may be some cross site working required for this role.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate post registration experience in nursing, speciality
  • Appropriate proven leadership and management experience
  • Relevant post registration at least 3 years at Band 5 or above.
  • Proven commitment and experience, evidence in teaching
  • Experience as preceptor / mentor
  • Communications Skills training or prepared to work towards psychological skills level 2
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of undertaking research or audit projects
  • Experience working on a surgical ward
  • Experience working in oncology
  • Evidence of commitment to research based practice or evidence of project work undertaken

  • Current NMC registration
  • RGN.1st Level
  • 1st Degree In nursing or health related subject, willing to undertake/ working towards

  • Relevant accredited post registration qualification at level 3
Desirable criteria
  • Willingness to work towards Masters level academic study
