Job overview

The Return to Professional Practice for nursing programme will prepare you for return to today’s workforce by providing education and practice based learning. Enabling those Practitioners whose registration has lapsed to return to practice with the contemporary skills, knowledge and competence required in the present healthcare climate.

You will join the team two months prior to your return to practice course start date to support you in your transition back into acute care and to upskill you with the new future nurse proficiencies.

Main duties of the job

Under the supervision of a practice assessor and practice supervisor provide a high standard of safe individualised, holistic and evidence-based patient focused care in consultation with the patient, relatives and the multidisciplinary team.

In order to complete the programme you need to:

  • Be prepared to return to study
  • Commit to working as a qualified nurse at CUH on successful completion of the programme
  • Complete the required study and learning outcomes
  • Undertake a minimum of 30 hours each week in a clinical placement based at Cambridge University Hospitals
  • Work flexible hours to incorporate the full 24 hours service commitment and to allow you to work with your Practice Supervisor/Assessor and do at least 150 hours of assessed practice

Essential criteria
  • • Willing to undertake the return to Practice Nursing Module at available Higher Education Institution Lapsed Registration with the NMC on part one or two of the register
Desirable criteria
  • • evidence of continuing professional development and its application

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Proven clinical practice • Experience of utilising reflective practice
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of mentoring junior staff • Experience of teaching junior staff • Experience of shift: shift ward management in absence of senior colleagues • Clinical supervision

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • NMC code of conduct and guideline of professional practice • Evidence of good theoretical and practical knowledge of nursing within the clinical area • Awareness of need to demonstrate a professional appearance and behaviour
Desirable criteria
  • • Awareness of risk management procedure • An understanding of the professional nursing agenda • Awareness of broader issues within the Trust and NHS • Health and safety awareness • Quality issues and Clinical Governance • Awareness of Trust and Ward / Department policies
