Job overview

We have an excellent opportunity to join our Vision Screening Team!

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Vision Screener to join the 0-19 Healthy Child Programme team across Cambridgeshire.

You will be joining a proactive skill mix team working to provide a seamless service to children, young people and their families delivering the Healthy Child Programme in line with Cambridgeshire Community Service NHS Trust commissioned service.

The role will involve liaising with schools to plan vision screening sessions for reception pupils, undertaking the screening and collating and recording results.

Experience of screening is not necessary as full training will be given.  However excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills are essential along with experience of working as part of a team and on your own initiative.

We provide an induction programme along with appropriate training and development opportunities to extend your knowledge and skills to deliver the vision screening programme.

If you have experience of working with children and are keen to contribute to providing high quality services for school age children and their families then we would love to hear from you.

Please note that the ability to travel to schools across the county is essential.

Main duties of the job

Before applying for this vacancy please be aware of the salary threshold required for a certificate of sponsorship to be granted, and that unfortunately overseas applicants who are new to care may not reach the minimum salary threshold to obtain a certificate of sponsorship

Screening for vision defects is part of the healthy child programme; the aim of screening is early identification for children with amblyopia (lazy eye).  By undertaking the screening in the reception year, treatment where identified as necessary, has the potential to improve vison.
