Job overview

We are recruiting for an experienced and dynamic Band 6 Lead Practitioner looking to develop their practice at the Peterborough City Hospital. Lead Theatre Practitioners must be experienced in perioperative care practice and will assist in the leadership of the theatre/recovery team as shift Leader, including leading the emergency team at weekends and as required. 

Lead practitioner will be proactive in identifying the educational needs of the department and support the training requirements of all theatre staff. 

You must be committed to providing excellent standards of patient care with good communication skills. Candidates need to show professionalism, maturity, reliability, flexibility and be highly motivated individuals seeking a challenge and to thrive in a busy environment.

The theatre department is committed to offering a first rate service and supporting staff development. You will receive ongoing support from our in house Clinical Educator and continuing professional development along with opportunities to enhance your experience. You will also be responsible for supporting, mentoring and developing junior staff.

 

Main duties of the job

Participate as scrub practitioner as a member of the surgical team. Take responsibility for safety checks of instruments and other items within the surgical field. Anticipating the need for and supervising the dispensing of surgical items and ensuring the availability of items required during the procedure. Be responsible for the co-ordination of the surgical theatre team.

Participate as circulating person for surgical procedures including responsibility for carrying out safety checks in conjunction with a second person. Anticipating the needs of the surgical team, proactively organising staff and resources for effective care delivery. Prepare surgical equipment before use and anticipate that needs may change during the procedure.

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner (Minimum 3 years relevant experience)
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship / 998 or equivalent
  • Assessing qualification for NVQ students D32/33 or A1 Award
  • 176/183/N33 or other qualification in Perioperative care
  • Willing to undertake Standards for Student Supervision & Assessment (SSSA 2018)

Experience
