This post has arisen as a result of expansion in both clinical and research related work in the Clinical Research Group within the Haematology Department. The post holder will be a qualified nurse experienced in direct patient care, based within the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) Haematology Directorate. Previous clinical trial experience is an advantage, but full training and clinical support will be provided.

Responsibilities will include: participating in the management of patients with a variety of haematological malignancies that require treatment; providing information about clinical trials to patients and their carers, patient monitoring and collection of accurate and timely data about the effects of treatment and patient quality of life.

The post holder will be expected to be proactive in the education of other healthcare professionals about clinical trials and will be encouraged to prepare research reports and updates for local and national meetings as required.

The post holder will work as part of the Haematology nursing team with specific responsibility for all nursing activities associated with Clinical Research Trials.

The Haematology Clinical Research Group provides a variety of clinical trials to patients with a variety of Haematological conditions in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan and is also a tertairy referal centre for the rest of Wales. The Clinical Research Group works on a number clinical trials both non commercial and commercial and Portfolio adopted studies and helps support the Hospital and University's reputation of being a centre of excellence for leaukaemia research.
