Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Highly Specialist Stroke Rehabilitation Team Lead  Dietitian to lead the Dietetic team within the Stroke Rehabilitation Centre (SRC), University Hospital Llandough.  We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic rehabilitation specialist with proven skills in the management of stroke patients with rehabilitation needs. 

SRC is a 38-bedded inpatient facility providing specialist stroke recovery and rehabilitation care for the population of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.    The Early Supported Discharge Team provides community based stroke rehabilitation to patients after discharge from hospital. The stroke multidisciplinary team includes dedicated Multiprofessional Rehabilitation Assistants, Speech and Language therapy, OT. Physio, Psychology, medical and nursing working collaboratively. 

The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership  working closely with the ESD team, SRC’s ward manager, stroke consultants and other multidisciplinary team leaders as part of the well-established expert stroke leadership team.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a dynamic and innovative practitioner with significant post registration experience and skills. They will be expected to carry a complex rehabilitation caseload.

The successful candidate will need to:

  • be responsible for the overseeing the day-to-day delivery of a high-quality dietetic service to patients recovering and rehabilitating after stroke.
  • have previous senior clinical and leadership experience.
  • act as an expert providing clinical supervision, support to the team and clinical advice to junior dietitians, members of the interdisciplinary team, patients, carers and other agencies.
  • have excellent organisational, communication and influencing skills.
  • work well within a multidisciplinary team.
  • collaborate closely with key leaders/managers which will include identifying areas for service development and improvement, implementing transformational change.
  • advocate and support patients’ rights by promoting shared decision making, respecting individual choice and beliefs, ensuring privacy and dignity at all times.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised qualification degree/equivalent in physiotherapy/occupational therapy or Nursing
  • NMC or HCPC Registration
  • Specialist training/courses to postgraduate diploma level
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of the professional body
  • Masters level qualification or equivalent

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Highly developed physical skills relevant to the clinical area e.g. manual techniques and therapeutic handling
  • Ability to demonstrate advanced level of clinical skills within the specialist field.
