Job overview

Breast Test Wales (BTW) is part of the Screening Division of Public Health Wales.  It manages the national breast cancer screening programme for women between the ages of 50 and 70 for NHS Wales. Women who attend BTW and have an abnormality identified during their mammogram are then invited to attend an assessment clinic for further tests.

We are looking to recruit band 5 bank nurses to work as clinic nurses in our BTW centres.  The clinic nurse is a key member of the multi disciplinary team of professionals who provide care to women accessing our service.

Main duties of the job

The role involves supporting the Breast Care Nurses in the delivery of compassionate,  safe and effective care to women recalled for further assessment following their routine screening mammogram.   The post holder will require a high standard of clinical skills, assisting the wider multi-disciplinary team with further tests and procedures.   They will also need to possess excellent inter personal skills with the ability to support women in a calm and reassuring manner.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

The post holder will be expected:

  • To adhere to the professional standards for registered nurses and midwives as set out within the Nursing Midwifery Council’s Code.
  • To assist the Breast Care Nurses and wider MDT in the clinic environment.
  • To provide support for women accessing the service.
  • To be responsible for stock control and ordering of supplies.
