Hywel Dda University Health Board has an exciting opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic and ambitious Children’s Nurse Leader to join our Acute Paediatric Nursing Service.

We are looking for a permanent Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join the team at Bronglais General Hospital, Aberystwyth. The clinical area provides local services for the children, including 6 inpatient children’s beds, 1 high dependency stabilisation bed and a four bedded Paediatric Ambulatory Care Unit, as well as Oncology care, Child and Adolescent Mental health services.

We provide an excellent service to meet the needs of children and families incorporating Family Centred Care. We are committed to the provision of high-quality evidence-based practice to meet the needs of children, young people and parents while ensuring we provide family centred care as close to home as possible.

Hywel Dda University Health Board has a relocation policy for successful applicants wishing to move to the area. Applicants must meet the criteria to be eligible which can be found in the Relocation Policy.

Main duties of the job

You will also be expected to co-ordinate the unit on a day-to-day basis. We offer good opportunities to accumulate paediatric nursing skills within a friendly, supportive and encouraging team.

A caring attitude is essential with good written and oral skills. You must be able to manage your time effectively. Hywel Dda University Health Board supports all staff in their life-long learning. Applicants need to be RSCN/Child Branch trained with relevant NMC registration and have significant post registration experience or hold the HDU qualification.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC registration
  • Post graduate diploma or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of CPD
  • RN part 8 or 15 of the register
  • WNB 998 of equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ D32/33 Assessors course
  • Possession of relevant degree or in process of obtaining
  • EPLS/APLS/PALS

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to provide supervisory management
  • Experience of co-ordinating and managing patient care
  • Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of paediatric nursing
  • Evidence of mandatory and statutory training
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of handling clinical incidents and complaints
  • Previous experience of leadership and managment
  • Previous experience of research and audit
