Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our friendly and supportive acute gastro nursing team, committed to providing and maintaining high standards of patient care with a focus on Gastroenterology and Liver specialist nursing.

Ward 3 is a 28-bed acute medical ward specialising in Gastroenterology.

You will be joining a dedicated and enthusiastic nursing team that will support you whether you're starting your career or bringing years of experience.

Each day in this role is different, offering the opportunity to manage a variety of patient needs and develop your skills within this dynamic environment.

Hours per week: 37.5 (part time hours also available)

Main duties of the job

The role of the Staff Nurse involves participating in the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of high-quality nursing care. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Staff Nurse will ensure patients receive the highest standard of care through a holistic, patient-centered approach while maintaining accurate and thorough documentation.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills and demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a busy team.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council NMC)
  • Understanding of NMC Code, safeguarding and consent; working knowledge of NHS values and standards
Desirable criteria
  • Post-registration course relevant to clinical area

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care; effective documentation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to build therapeutic relationships
  • Ability to work within a team and take delegated responsibility, understanding of professional boundaries
  • Able to prioritise and manage time effectively in a busy clinical setting
  • Confident in using electronic patient records and digital systems
  • Compassionate, reliable, committed to personcentred care; demonstrates resilience and emotional maturity
Desirable criteria
  • Proficient in clinical procedures relevant to the area (e.g., IV administration, catheterisation)
  • Experience liaising with families and multiagency professionals
  • Knowledge of local and national healthcare initiatives
  • Evidence of continuous professional development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of recent acute or relevant clinical experience (including student placements)
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience mentoring students or supervising junior staff
  • Experience of taking charge or leading a shift
  • Experience contributing to service improvement or change
  • Experience using audit or reporting tools
