Job overview

An opportunity for a Band 5 Staff Nurse Role has become available to cover Maternity Leave on a Fixed Term Contract for 12 months . The Band 5 Staff nurse role will be an opportunity for an enthusiastic and dynamic nurse who will responsibility for the direct healthcare management of patients with a range of gynaecological and surgical conditions, the ward also specialises in providing care for women experiencing pregnancy related disorders up to 18 weeks gestation. The staff nurse will be responsible for leading the team, supporting student nurses and advocating for patients and their carers. The role will be a rotational position on the Ward and into Gynae outpatients.

Main duties of the job

The Staff Nurse will be responsible for evaluating, delivering a range of care needs to patients and monitoring effectiveness. Supporting patients pre and post surgery, pre and post interventional radiology procedures. Providing and managing the care of patients and their partners experiencing a range of pregnancy loss and pregnancy complications such as fetal abnormality syndromes, ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy and hyperemesis gravidarium. They will have responsibility to liaise with other members of the multidisciplinary while advocating for the patient to ensure safe care. It is expected that the nurse will support training needs for themselves, colleagues and students including supporting the preceptorship process. The nurse will also be responsible for managing the patients who are accepted into the Gynaecology Assessment Unit with the support of the Ward Manager and Matron

Person specification

Registered Nurse with a diploma/degree or relevant experience

Essential criteria
  • • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to overcome barriers to communication
  • • Good organisational skills and able to prioritise and delegate
  • • Confident in dealing with difficult situations
  • • Good time management
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience in Gynaecological nursing • Surgical nursing experience
  • • Audit skills

12 months post registration experience

Essential criteria
  • • Use of computer for Lorenzo/ EPMA medicine management/ ICE requests/ PARE online for student documentation

• Acute hospital experience
