NHS AfC: Band 6

Job overview

Targeted Lung Health Check Nurse, up to 36 hours per week, band 6 - Cross site working.

North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust are excited and proud to announce the start of a lung cancer screening programme for North Cumbria. The screening programme has the potential to do a lung health check with the patient and detect asymptomatic lung cancer at an earlier stage when there are curative treatment options available to the patient.

Main duties of the job

Based within the respiratory team the successful candidate(s) will receive referrals from primary care, conduct face to face and telephone consultations with patients, discuss CT results, organise appropriate interval follow up according to national guidelines and link in with pre-existing services including the lung cancer service.

Excellent communication skills will be required to articulate and assist patients in complex decision making regarding the risks associated with pulmonary nodules balanced with the risks associated with further investigations and or treatments. A high level of personal organisation and the ability to manage a caseload with assistance from the established team will be required.

The post is advertised as permanent and the successful candidate(s) will in part be responsible for collecting data regarding the service and its outcomes and keeping the CCG  and NHS England updated on the outcomes and any issues and challenges.

Interested candidates are strongly encouraged to discuss the post with the respiratory team.
