Job overview

We have an opportunity for a Band 3 community healthcare assistant to join our team on a temporary basis. This is a  26.25  hours per week post, to cover maternity leave until February 2025.

The service runs 7 days a week 365 days a year. Daily shift patterns between 8:30 until 22:30. Shifts would fit in this time depending on service demands. Weekend working on a rotational basis. Flexible working is required to meet the needs of the patients group. 

Main duties of the job

As a Health Care Assistant  you will work with other health and social care professionals in an integrated care team, ensuring that patient care is delivered to the highest possible standard.

As a Health Care Assistant, working under the direction of a registered health Nurse, you will undertake a range of nursing duties. This includes clinical observations, recording patient information,  Female and Male Catheterisation, venepuncture, wound care, compression bandaging, provision of continence products, management of pressure areas and wound care in relation to this. Supporting patients, their families and Carers with advice and guidance. You will also be required to administer sub cut injections including insulin.  Local Preceptorship will be provided to the successful candidate.

Disclosure and Barring Service:

The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of community services that support and maintain independence.
  • Knowledge of personal care tasks and activities of daily living
  • An understanding of how to support, with empathy and encouragement, individuals who may be unwell or have reduced functional capabilities.
  • Self- awareness and appreciation of own limitations

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate health, social care or rehabilitation experience in a care setting.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working in a team.
  • Able to work with a wide range of people.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Care certificate
  • Evidence of professional self-development and a willing ness to undertake NVQ Level 3 training.
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 2, 3 or equivalent in care

Skills & Aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Competency to provide clinical observations and basic diagnostics
  • Ability to apply practical skills to maintain patient independence
  • Able to use initiative, maintain confidentiality, exercise individual responsibility and judgement.
  • Able to communicate tactfully and persuasively with colleagues, patients and carers.
  • Basic IT skills.
