Job overview

Templer  Ward is a 30 bedded in patient ward within Newton Abbot community Hospital. 20 beds  provide care to specialist stroke and neuro rehabilitation patients following  treatment in an acute hospital setting. The other 10 beds are for patients requiring general medical care and rehabilitation.

Joining our team on a permanent full time contract, you will be working within a proactive multidisciplinary team to encourage patients to reach the maximum rehabilitation potential to enable safe discharge from  hospital.

Main duties of the job

  • We are looking for a caring and compassionate person who is able to work within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a high standard of individualised nursing care to our patients. 
  • You will need excellent communication skills, and be able to work independently, prioritising your workload to ensure the best outcomes for patients. 
  • You will ensure that your own actions support the care, protection and well-being of individuals, and ensure their privacy and dignity at all times. 
  • You will need to be flexible as this is a rotational post which includes days, nights and weekend working.

  • Communication and Working Relationships 
    The post holder will be expected to:
    Work as a member of the team

    Recognising and responding to situations within the work area and report to the nurse in charge

    Undertake direct patient care, in support of, and under the delegation of the Registered Nurse, and document care given as required

    Assist with last offices and care of relatives/carers

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ2 or equivalent in healthcare
  • Proven relevant and recent experience gained within the care sector

Knowledge and experience

  • Able to demonstrate a good level of literacy, numeracy, verbal and written skills
  • To demonstrate experience in a caring environment in or outside of the workplace
Desirable criteria
  • Previous knowledge of hospital computer systems
  • Previous hospital experience
