Job overview

Main duties of the job

  • To work as a member of the acute care team working across the trust. The team will provide a seamless and coordinated service that meets the needs of all patients requiring central venous access, those with acute pain or those who are at risk of deterioration.
  • Assessing patients recently transferred from the Critical Care area and co-ordinating all aspects of care with members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Carry the stroke bleep at night.
  • Provides specialist nursing advice regarding all aspects of acute pain in particular those patients with complex pain management needs.
  • Review patients with advanced pain management systems.
  • To provide advanced clinical skills that are unable/require support to be provided by ward staff alone e.g. tracheotomy care, non-invasive ventilation and Ketamine infusions.
  • Support and educate ward staff in gaining knowledge and skills to recognise and care for patients with acute care needs.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To act as an expert resource for all members of the multi-professional team, participating in the review of patients on general wards, liaising with clinicians in the transfer of patients to critical care when appropriate.
  • Act as a professional role model who leads by example in regard to behaviour, attitudes, conduct and appearance.
  • Independently manage a varying caseload of referrals.
  • Effectively lead, manage and evaluate change in clinical practice.
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of clinical governance and risk management and apply to work situation.
  • Actively contribute to and support agreed developments within directorate and Trust objectives.
