Job overview
We are looking to recruit committed and enthusiastic nurses for an opportunity to enhance and develop their skills within a positive and challenging environment, by joining the friendly team based on the Intensive Care Unit at Torbay Hospital.
The successful applicant must be prepared to provide high quality evidence based care and be flexible and proactive in adapting to meet the needs of the service and must have recently worked in acute settings.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work efficiently as part of a team are integral to the role.
The work is varied, changes quickly and can be physically, mentally and emotionally challenging, the unit recognises the importance of providing support to facilitate team members to maintain good health and well-being.
Main duties of the job
- To participate in the assessment of care needs of the critically ill patient and their specific others including the development, implementation and evaluation of care.
- Promoting high standards, demonstrating a compassionate nature and ensuring patient dignity.
- To participate as a skilled member of the multi-functioning disciplinary team and ensuring all care is evidence based.
- The ability to provide a consistently high standard of care to Critically ill patients and their relatives who may distressed whilst effectively managing daily pressures, demands and workload.
- Responsible for the care of critically ill patients and their families
- Recognise and treat patients as individuals
- Administering medications and treatment within guidelines.
- Maintain Trust documentation
- Appropriate communication with all members of the MDT
- Ensuring all patients receive compassionate care and their dignity is maintained at all times.
- To act as a role model for junior staff

The Practice Education team coordinate individualised support and development based on the National Critical Care Competencies utilising simulation and team building, as well as providing opportunities to attend national conferences and study days.

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- Registered General Nurse
- Significant recent post registration experience in an acute hospital setting. e.g. equivalent 1 year full time.
Desirable criteria
- Degree in Nursing
- ENB 100/124 or equivalent
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of the acutely ill patient
- Interest in Intensive Care Nursing.
Desirable criteria
- Previous ICU experience
Special Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of Intensive Care nursing
Desirable criteria
- Research awareness

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
