Job overview

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated, dynamic nurse who can demonstrate commitment to the provision of high-quality person-centred care.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide high standards of individualised care for the people who use our services ,whilst maintaining their privacy and dignity at all time. 

When working in the surgical Surgical Admissions Unit to help  ensure a smooth running of the department and the timely arrival of patients to theatre. Liaising with the theatres and the multidisciplinary team on a daily basis to ensure good communication and patient outcomes  and to provide high quality and concise pre-assessment for elective surgical patients and to help ensure efficient  and safe patient based care to patients on the day of surgery.

Main duties of the job

To be able to undertake nurse led pre-assessment on patients undergoing elective surgery for all specialities ,provide health promotion advice and ensure that written information relating to the surgery is given. Patient is optimised for surgery and risks are identified and action taken

When working in the Surgical Admissions Unit to help ensure the smooth running of the department and the timely arrival of patients to theatre ,liaising with the multi disciplinary team and other departments on a daily basis

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered (Level 1) Adult Nursing
Desirable criteria
  • Degree in nursing or on a pathway
  • Interest in or experience of specialist surgery: head and neck, ENT, vascular, gynaecology and maxilla facial surgery

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Previous surgical experience
  • Evidence of meeting PREP requirements
  • Knowledge of Clinical governance
  • Knowledge of individual responsibility to health and safety and clinical risk
Desirable criteria
  • Previous pre-assessment experience
  • Awareness of the NHS plan and current initiatives that affect us particularly in the south west penninsular
