Job overview

An exciting opportunity for a Ward Manager has become available within our Children and Young Peoples Inpatient Services at  Pebble Lodge. We are looking for a clinically skilled, enthusiastic, and motivated Ward Manager to join the team.

The  post holder will work with the senior management team to ensure safe, effective care and treatment, and be supported in their development with learning opportunities.

The role requires an understanding of child and adolescent mental health, leadership and management skills, a good understanding of complex mental health, attachment and trauma issues for children and young people.

Being a University Trust, we promote learning & development and all staff are encouraged and supported throughout their career to grow and develop.  We provide in depth initial and on-going inductions, mandatory/personal training programmes, plus clinical and management supervision.  Our staff also have access to some of the leading research programmes in mental health and, whatever your role, there are opportunities to develop skills and clinical practice by being part of ground-breaking work.

Our staff are entitled to a series of employee benefits, including flexible working, NHS Pension, car lease schemes and exclusive discounts on a wide range of products and services, from household appliances to holidays. We also offer a generous relocation package, where applicable.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to for an experienced, credible, motivated, resilient and inspiring clinician to lead our CAMHS acute mental health ward

Pebble  Lodge is a 10 bed General Adolescent Unit providing a high quality of care and treatment for patients who have physical, social, psychological and emotional health needs.  The purpose of the ward is to offer comprehensive assessments and treatment enabling Service Users to have shorter stays in hospital and to develop clear plans of care.

There is a strong sense of “team”  and staff have been empowered to be innovative and implement their ideas on the ward. We want the new manager to build on these successes and continue to foster a supportive and learning environment for staff to work in. We have a values-based approach and welcome applications from candidates who will role model the trust’s core values.

The successful candidate will possess strong clinical leadership skills, be able to demonstrate a supportive and empathetic approach to service users and carers. They will have excellent communication and organisational skills, be able to influence at senior level, have hands-on experience of working with challenging behaviours and a wide range of mental health problems.

The multi-disciplinary team are friendly, knowledgeable and have wide ranging skills to;

  • Place the patient front and centre in their recovery journey
  • Promote freedom of choice and least restrictive practice, in a safe and therapeutic environment
