Job overview

This is a newly developed role in the Darlington Adult Community Mental Health Services, the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate detailed understanding Autism and ADHD, and be able to take on the lead role in the teams.

The successful applicant will organise, lead, and participate in decision making as part of the multi-disciplinary team. They will be expected to ensure that high clinical standards are maintained in the delivery of care across all aspects of service. The post holder would also be expected to update the wider MDT on the progress of the neurodevelopmental pathway, processes and ongoing assessments.

The post holder would be expected to demonstrate effective communication and delegation skills in order to successfully lead the development and implementation of the neurodevelopmental pathway across both community mental health teams based in Darlington at West Park hospital.

The post holder will require existing skills in the assessment of both ADHD and Autism as this will be a central part of the role. They would also be expected to share these skills with the wider team via teaching and training sessions. Neurodevelopmental assessment is a high priority nationally and there is a growing demand across Darlington.  Having the skills and confidence to manage a complex role involving not only assessment, but gathering of performance data reflecting the efficacy of the service, including wait times and outcomes is also essential to the role.

 

Main duties of the job

Assessment for neurodevelopmental conditions including autism and ADHD. Providing oversight and support to the wider teams in the completion of these assessment and subsequent intervention and monitoring.

Leading the development of the neurodevelopmental pathway within the Darlington Community Mental Health Teams within the trust neurodevelopmental framework.

Act as a member of the leadership team across both community mental health teams.

As a clinical nurse specialist this role would also include additional wider duties as needed.

Leading, organising and facilitating the multidisciplinary meetings associated with diagnostic decision making.

Providing clinical and caseload supervision to multidisciplinary practitioners within both teams.

In addition to the main role as a neurodevelopmental lead the candidate needs to have good knowledge of safeguarding, clinical risk assessment and management of caseload in regard to the implications in practice. The post holder would be expected to demonstrate skilled ability to recognise the complex nature of patients with wider mental health needs outside of neurodevelopmental conditions.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Current Professional Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council - RMN / RNLD/ RGN (RNSC - CAMHS Only)
  • Recognised Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor or currently in progress of achieving.
  • Trained in Clinical Supervision and providing Clinical Supervision or in the process of achieving
  • Postgraduate diploma in a subject relevant to the area Or be willing to work towards and achieve within 2 years and
  • Within the first year of being in post hold a recognised qualification in a governed therapy/advanced clinical qualification e.g Intermediate Systemic Family Therapy/Post Grad diploma in CBT/British Isles Dialectical Behaviour Therapy /NMP (level 3 Independent Prescriber)
  • And have Equivalent clinical experience to that of a Post Grad Diploma/master’s level such as working as a band 6 (or above) in relevant clinical area with significant experience (see below under experience), together with evidence of relevant CPD
  • Experience required - Significant experience working with patients with complex needs in the specialist field.
  • Significant experience working with patients who display risk behaviours.
  • Clinical risk assessment and management and its application in practice.
  • Working collaboratively with service users their families and carers.
  • Working in a multi disciplinary team.
  • Quality improvement activities.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Extensive knowledge of current issues relating to health needs of patients in the field of practice, regionally and nationally
  • Understanding and working knowledge of the legal framework and statutory obligations under the MentalHealth Act, Mental Capacity Act
  • Detailed understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice.
  • Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice.
  • Clinical Governance and its application in practice.
  • Working knowledge of clinical medicines management.
  • Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment (depending on specialist area).
