Multi-professional Approved Clinician

An exciting opportunity has arisen in Tees Esk and Wear NHS Foundation Trust for a qualified Multi-professional Approved Clinician's (AC) within Durham Planned care.   This is open to experienced eligible mental health professionals who are already  qualified Approved Clinicians this is not a trainee post.

Main duties of the job

Applicants will be experienced clinicians who are already leading team/s and from eligible mental health professional disciplines. Applicants need to be already approved by the appropriate authority to act as an Approved Clinician in England for the purposes of the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended 2007).

The post holder will be responsible for working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver best quality, safe, effective and compassionate care. 

The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and service within the locality and specialty area where deployed. This involves working in a leadership role with various disciplines, managers and external partners to deliver the best care and experience for our service users, families and carers. 

Working for our organisation

The trust has an Approved Clinician oversight group to further support and provide infrastructure for the role. There is also a multi-professional AC peer supervision forum, strong links with national developments and portfolio workshop support through the North of England Approval Panel. Applicants are asked to make it clear in their application which preference in terms of specialty and locality area where the posts are to be deployed.

The Approved Clinician posts will be worked for Durham Planned Care community (Adult Mental Health).

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Trained and registered as an Approved Clinician
  • Professional regulation and registration in eligible discipline - psychology, occupational therapy via HCPC; social workers via Social Work England; Registered Mental Health Nurse with current professional registration with the NMC
  • Psychologists -Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS; Registered Mental Health/Learning Disability Nurse with additional masters degree or equivalent ; qualified with approved training degree or equivalent as an Occupational Therapist or Social worker with additional masters level degree or equivalent;
  • Evidence of continued professional development and for nurses this includes relevant Post-basic clinical qualification(s) with a professional portfolio supporting this.
  • Psychologists to have Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice), training in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees ; for nurses Non-medical prescriber (or willingness to achieve within agreed timescale) and recognised teaching qualification; for Occupational Therapists and Social workers evidence of further training or qualification in an area of specialist practice eg sensory integration, AMHP, OT to be an Accredited Practice Placement Educator (APPLE)
  • Significant clinical experience
Desirable criteria
  • For nurses, social workers and Occupational Therapists - Willingness to enroll for doctorate level study (this essential for psychologists)
  • Member of a professional body eg British Psychological Society (psychologists), Member of British Association of Occupational Therapy, British Association of Social Workers (BASW), Royal College of Nursing
  • Post qualification training in leadership or management

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Autonomous clinical decision making and leadership of mulit-disciplinary teams
  • Experience of managing change and service development
  • Competent in mental health assessment, formulation, intervention and evaluation that incorporates biological, psychological, cultural and social perspectives
  • Assessing capacity to consent to treatment
  • Experienced in joint working across agencies including statutory and voluntary sector
  • Experience of training/working clinically across inpatient and community settings, for psychologists. This needs to be across the lifespan
  • Project management and delivery of service improvements
  • Providing professional leadership to qualified and unqualified staff
  • For Consultant post - full clinical responsibility for care, including care co-ordination and leadership of multi-disciplinary team
  • Teaching, training and clinical/research supervisor
  • Evidence of applied knowledge and experience in legislation relevant to detained patients, Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Human Rights
  • Ability to undertake comprehensive risk assessments and management of risk
  • Experience and evidence based practice in working with people with complex mental disorders, co-morbidities and associated risk behaviours
  • Clinical governance and assurance
  • Proficiency in undertaking and critically applying research

  • In-depth knowledge and research, audit and quality improvement methodologies and their application
