Job overview

We are looking to recruit  diverse, dynamic and enthusiastic team members to join Ridgeway within our female pathway.   Working closely with our external partners and stakeholders to ensure the right care in a timely manner to this patient group.  From education and prevention to crisis and specialist care —our talented and compassionate teams work in partnership with our patients, communities, carers, and partners to help the people of our region feel safe, understood, believed in, and cared for.

This post is only open to those candidates who already have their NMC registration in place and have successfully completed the preceptorship programme. Please note: Newly qualified applicants or those due to qualify will be recruited via a separate process.

Main duties of the job

The recovery model within the female pathway use’s a range of evidence-based interventions to address the service user’s medical, physical, psychological and social needs, embedding Trauma Informed Care and Positive Behaviour Support principles on a day-to-day basis as the foundations of structure, routine and care plans of our patients.

By adopting this approach nursing teams focus on a complete picture of the service user’s journey both past and present in order to prescribe the most effective care. This in turn influences all of our interactions and interventions in order to provide the safest and best possible care at all times.

We are looking to attract experienced registered mental health and learning disability nurses to embark upon and develop the Female pathway within  Ridgeway Hospital.

You will need excellent communication skills and a teamwork ethos. 

The position requires shift work, including occasional nights, on a rotational basis. 

There will be opportunity within the role to develop competence and knowledge enabling career progression within  the service.

Ridgeway provides a specialist service for adults with a mental health disorder, learning disability or autism who exhibit behaviours of concern to others and to themselves. The service provides individualised, comprehensive packages of care within Medium and Low Secure inpatient settings and has links to High Secure services and prisons.

The ethos of the service is to work collaboratively with service users and carers in the completion of assessments, treatment, intervention planning and rehabilitation to enable a person-centered recovery-focused approach to care, meeting their needs in a holistic manner.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current professional registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council RNMH or RNLD
  • To be recognised practice assessor / mentor or work towards in an agreed timescale
  • Trained Clinical Supervisor (within 6 month probationary period)
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working with people with mental ill health/learning disabilities
  • Working in a person centred therapeutic organisation
  • Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Working in partnership with other agencies

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence based knowledge of best practice in caring for patients in the designated field.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act).

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary Team
  • Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers/families and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Motivate and work positively and assertively with other members of the team
  • Use approved techniques in physical intervention (following training)
