Job overview

This post is only open to those candidates who already have their NMC registration in place and have successfully completed the preceptorship programme. Please note: Newly qualified applicants or those due to qualify will be recruited via a separate process.

We are looking for  individuals to join our fantastic team on Westerdale North Ward at Roseberry Park Hospital in Middlesbrough.  Westerdale North Ward  is a 20 bedded mixed gendered unit which provides care to older age adults who have a functional illness.  The ward provides inpatient mental health care, assessment and comprehensive treatment to individuals who are experiencing mental ill.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for nurses who are motivated and enthusiastic to join our team to support the recovery of our service users. There is opportunity to undertake CPD training and to receive support and guidance on professional development.

A shift as a nurse on Westerdale North ward would involve; allocating tasks; medications management; completing mental health assessments; risk assessments; reviewing care plans; ; 1:1 support; physical health reviews; risk management; working towards our drive of reducing restrictive interventions, audits; handovers; supervisions and attend meetings (this list is not exhaustive) . You would be offered regular supervision, appraisal reviews, group supervision

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current professional registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council RNMH or RNLD (RNSC – CAMHS only ) – RGN (If appropriate – Advert must indicate if the role is open to RGN nurses to apply)
  • To be recognised practice assessor / mentor or work towards in an agreed timescale
  • Trained Clinical Supervisor (within 6 month probationary period)
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working with people with mental ill health / learning disabilities
  • Working in a person centred therapeutic organisation
  • Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Working in partnership with other agencies

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence based knowledge of best practice in caring for patients in the designated field.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act).
  • Understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice.
  • Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice.
  • Clinical Governance and its application in practice.
  • Confident working knowledge of clinical medicines management, including administration of injections.
