Our patients, their families and carers work together with us towards better mental health.

We’re committed to new thinking that improves the wellbeing of our region. We connect with our communities and partners to get mental health care right, in areas that really need it.

We won’t rest until everyone in our region has the mental health care they need, to lead their best possible life.

Job overview

Are you a current Mental Health or Learning Disabilities student nurse?

We are currently recruiting to the Temporary Staffing Service and our existing students can now join the bank as a HCA internally. Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust has an established Temporary Staffing Service which helps to ensure that we meet the needs of our service users.

This vacancy is only open to current Mental Health or Learning Disability Student Nurses who are currently on/have recently been on placement within our services.  Any applications that do not meet this criteria will be rejected.

Main duties of the job

Supporting our Nursing teams within our inpatient services, to help promote recovery for our service users, you will have excellent communication skills and will work directly with patients, as part of a wider MDT and will need to demonstrate empathy, compassion, understanding and patience, whilst demonstrating that you can work flexibly as and when the need arises.

Working for our organisation

The Trust is a strongly value based, person-centred organisation which has taken a strategic approach to continued service improvement, the modernisation of clinical roles and the introduction of care pathways embedded within a functioning system of governance.

The most important way we will get there is by living our values all of the time. These are:

  • Respect – listening, inclusive, working in partnership
  • Compassion – kind, supporting, recognising and celebrating
  • Responsibility – honest, learning, ambitious

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a unique opportunity to fast track onto the bank available only to existing students within TEWV which will enable you to work and gain valuable experience within Forensic Services, Learning Disability and Mental Health Services for Adult and Older People, Trust wide. You will be responsible for supporting nursing staff in meeting the needs of services users, working alongside our established workforce delivering all aspects of care to promote choice and client independence.

Successful applicants will be required to complete a mandatory training programme within the first 8 weeks of commencement which will provide all recruits with the necessary skills to work effectively and safely within our unique services. This is approximately 8 days of training for HCAs,  this includes 5 consecutive days of face to face training in Positive and Safe Care. It is therefore essential that applicants ensure that they can commit to this prior to applying.

Student nurses must be on placement within the Trust or have recently completed a placement within the Trust as we will need to obtain a satisfactory reference from your TEWV practice placement mentor(s).

Please ensure that the placement is listed on your application form and your TEWV placement mentor is on the application as one of your referees (we need references to cover the past 3 years of employment/education/activity).

Please also make sure that you list the month and year of your student nurse cohort, expected year of completion of your nursing qualification and when your training was last updated.  Failure to do this may result in your application being rejected.

Bank workers are not regular employees and have no entitlement to guaranteed or continuous employment. Please be aware that hours worked on the bank are not transferable to placement hours. You will also not be able to undertake bank work in the same location as your current placement.
