Newly Qualified Nurses – We need you!

Here in York, Selby, North Yorkshire, you will have the opportunity to work with some fantastic teams in the locality.

We are now welcoming applications from student nurses in their 3rd year of training within 6 months of qualifying.

Starting your career as a Registered Nurse with our Trust means developing your skills as a professional nurse in a friendly and forward-thinking environment. 

We are fully committed to investing in your personal and professional development, supporting newly qualified nurses to achieve their full potential.

Successful candidates will be enrolled into our Newly Qualified Nurse structured 12 months Preceptorship Program, with regular study days, mentoring, and support in practice.

We will offer:

  • Guaranteed interviews for every qualified nurse (including those who are just about to qualify)
  • Full constructive feedback to everyone interviewed
  • All successful applicants will be offered a permanent position with the Trust
  • Newly qualified nurse supportive preceptorship arrangements
  • Successful students will be given an individual development programme providing bespoke support in their first two years of employment with the Trust

Main duties of the job

Adult Mental Health

There are opportunities within Adult Mental Health, which include our 4 acute inpatient wards based at both Cross Lane Hospital in Scarborough and Foss Park Hospital in York, which provide inpatient rehabilitation at The Orchard.

Children's and Young People Service

In our children and young people services, you will work with a range of children and young people up to 18 years of age.  Cocreation is at the heart of everything we do and is a real opportunity to change the trajectory of the journey the young people. 

Mental Health Services for Older People

One of the most rewarding aspects of working in older person’s services is the opportunity to make a tangible difference in people's lives.  Our older person’s care encompasses a holistic approach to well-being.  Our therapeutic relationships go beyond simply providing care; they offer understanding respect, and a sense of connection for the elderly.

Regardless of the area that you choose, we will support you throughout your preceptorship programme, providing a mentor to guide and underpin your learning with their knowledge and experience.

We will encourage your development and provide you with opportunities. You will also have access to the Trusts Professional Nurse Advocates if you require any further support and coaching in your new role.

Adult Learning Disabilities 

We have four community Teams based in York, Harrogate, Northallerton and Scarborough providing support to service users, carers and their families locally.

As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work closely with individuals with learning disabilities, providing support and guidance to help them achieve their goals and live fulfilling lives. You will build meaningful relationships with clients and their families, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver person-centered care.

Essential criteria
  • Due to qualify as RNMH or RNLD current professional registration with NMC
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working with people with mental ill health or learning disabilities

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidenced based knowledge of best practice in caring for patients in the designated field.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act).
  • Care Programme Approach and its application in practice.
  • Understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice.
  • Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice.
