Job overview

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is committed to providing qualified Specialist Community Practitioner District Nurses to support Community Nursing Teams working in patients own homes in the Community in East Sussex, across EHS and H & R PCNs.    

An exciting opportunity to apply for the new Specialist Community  Practitioner District Nurse training course  in conjunction with the University of Brighton. This new course now includes V300 Independent Prescribing. The length of the course has been extended to 51 weeks (which includes a supported practice period at the end of the course and 6 weeks annual leave) before going into a substantive role within ESHT.  

Main duties of the job

The course runs from September 2024. Joint interviews will be held in May 2024 . The course is at Level 7 and entry requirements are that the:

  • the applicant is an NMC registered nurse (level 1) with relevant professional registration, capable of safe and effective practice at the level of proficiency for level 7.   
  • You will normally hold a degree at 2:1 or above or equivalent or be able to demonstrate the ability to study at Level 6.
  • You will normally have a minimum of three years post registration experience, preferably in a community setting. 
  • As well as being offered a place by ESHT, you will need to submit an application to the University. You will be given access to the University application once you have been shortlisted at interview.

Applicants should ideally have a minimum of 3 years Community nursing experience and be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm and commitment to the future of community nursing and supporting our residents of East Sussex in their own homes.    You will be supported throughout by experienced Practice Supervisors and Assessors.

Applicants will be funded at Mid point Band 5, but there may be opportunity to be seconded on your current salary. 

There is also the possibility to complete the course over 2 years.
