Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated nurse with specialist  cardiology clinical trial experience to join our clinical trials team based at St. Richard's Hospital, Chichester as a Research Nurse.

As a valued member of the team you will help people access studies and change future NHS treatments and patients' lives for the better. This exciting position will provide the ideal opportunity to develop clinical research experience and learn new skills.

Research experience is essential, we will still provide comprehensive training and support for the applicant.

The post is for 37.5 hours per week, weekday only.

We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.

Main duties of the job

Work collaboratively with the other members of the research team to support and manage the progress of allocated clinical trials and research undertaken in the Trust, maintaining an accurate account of project status and records as required.

Work collaboratively across professional and organisational boundaries within and outside the NHS and develop professional relationships with other relevant organisations including non-commercial bodies and pharmaceutical sponsors that promote the delivery of quality clinical research within UHSussex.

Proactively manage change in a manner which achieves results and drives initiatives forward along a continuum of improvement in keeping with current and forthcoming organisational strategies and health trends.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will work  within our team of clinical research nurses working mainly on the Cardiology portfolio of studies.

The post-holder will provide clinical care to patients who participate in research studies, supporting them in their decision-making to participate in trials, strict protocol adherence, data collection and entry onto relevant electronic databases, and organisation of visits, relevant tests and procedures ensuring patient safety is paramount at all times.

The post holder will also be responsible for promoting research within Trust departments and supporting colleagues and local investigators to deliver high-quality research activity to support patient care. The role requires flexibility and the ability to work as a team member and under own direction.

The post is 37.5 hours per week.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered Nurse
  • Educated to degree level or working towards or equivalent level of experience
  • Good Clinical Practice certification
Desirable criteria
  • Research methodology course

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of role and responsibility of research nurse
  • Evidence of understanding research process 10
  • Experience working on clinical trials in NHS setting
Desirable criteria
  • Experience as research nurse in cardiology or stroke

Clinical

Essential criteria
  • Post registration experience in a clinical environment
  • Prior experience/ understanding of clinical research in a clinical environment

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to evidence communication skills (verbal and non-verbal) across a variety of situations, departments and colleagues
  • Evidence of cardiology clinical experience
  • Venepuncture
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of being articulate and knowledgeable in current health care issues.
