Job overview

  • To be responsible for providing skilled clinical and technical assistance as a member of the operating theatre team
  • Participate in the assessment of patient care needs and implement and maintain agreed standards of care.
  • Adhere to professional Codes of Professional Practice provide high quality care to patients undergoing treatment within the perioperative setting.

  • Delegation and supervision of registered and unregistered staff including Associate Theatre Practitioners and learners

  • Provide a leadership role model and demonstrate specialist knowledge and high standards of clinical practice and provide support or advice when necessary.

Main duties of the job

  • Communicate effectively with patients and relatives/carers to provide patients and relatives/carers with information and advice and to liaise with appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team regarding their surgery. Communicate with relatives and patients to offer appropriate information and support.
  • Provide and maintain effective clinical assessment to ensure that patient care is planned and evaluated and related to the individual needs of patients undergoing surgical procedures.
  • Seek supervision to ensure that personal clinical practice is continuously developing.
  • Ensure that all documentation is comprehensively completed in accordance with the NMC/HCPC and Trust guidance.
  • Act at all times in accordance with the NMC/HCPC Code of Professional Conduct and maintain NMC/HCPC CPD requirements
  • Develop supervisory skills that support the continuous development of team members.
  • To respect patient confidentiality at all times.
  • To run or assist in the running of operating lists ensuring the efficient and safe running of the session.
  • To communicate effectively with patients, relatives/carers and all members of the multidisciplinary team at all times.
