Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Home Enteral Feed Team (HEFT) at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic nurse. The is a permanent, full-time (1.0wte.) post. The post holder will be at the forefront of service provision in the field of HEF.

This job opportunity would be suitable for an adult nurse that has enteral feeding skills and/or  community nursing skills, wanting to further develop their experience and knowledge to become a specialist in this field.
NMC Registration is essential. A driving license and access to a vehicle are also essential as this post covers a large geographical rural area.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have an exciting and challenging caseload in the community. As well as seeing patients in their own homes, you will also be required to see patients on site, in care homes and respite centres. 
You should be able to demonstrate the ability to work within a changing environment, have good communication skills and provide evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to this post.

You will join an award winning, busy, energetic and friendly team of Specialist Dietitians, Enteral Nutrition Nurse Specialists, Dietetic Support Workers, Dietetic Assistant Practitioners and Administration & Clerical staff. You will have the support of both an experienced Nursing Team Leader and Team Managers.

The team is based at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, but covers a countywide service and sits within the Nutrition and Dietetic Department. The successful post holder would be based at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, but will be mobile for several of your working hours.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Undertake nurse led assessment of patients needs regarding enteral nutrition support and stoma site care

- Provide specialist advice to patients, carers, NHS and other staff concerning routine care, equipment and the management of complications for all adult patients receiving enteral nutrition support in the county

- To support all staff to maintain high quality patient care when assessing, delivering and monitoring appropriate enteral nutrition to patients

- Provide specialist countywide triage service for patients referred to the HEFT with blocked/ broken feeding tubes during working hours  

- To deliver safe care within a challenging and changing environment, using equipment and resources safely and as appropriate

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Nursing and Midwifery Council Registered Nurse
  • Information Technology literate, capable with MS Office and Internet-based applications
  • Teaching and assessing qualification with experience of multi-professional / inter-professional teaching assessing qualification with experience of multi-professional / inter-professional teaching
  • Awareness of safeguarding procedures (Level 2 Safeguarding training or above)
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of safeguarding procedures (Level 3 Safeguarding training or above)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of methods of enteral artificial feeding
  • Knowledge of how to set up and to care for all forms of enteral artificial nutrition
  • Competence in understanding the needs of service users
  • Relevant post registration experience with substantial years’ experience of working in a related area e.g. nutrition support / gastroenterology
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate level education or equivalent level of experience

Knowledge/ Skills

Essential criteria
  • Enhanced levels of dexterity and accuracy pertaining to clinical skills
  • Has the ability to communicate through a variety of methods, including the use of interpersonal, written and verbal and non-verbal skills.
  • Ability to work in stressful environment with distress, emotional or aggressive patients /carers
  • Hold a full drivers licence and have access to a roadworthy vehicle during working hours
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in the community setting
