The role of Breast Nurse Specialist is a great opportunity to develop your clinical and professional practice along with leadership and management experiences.  Excellent communication skills and self-awareness are required for your own and others well-being.  The post holder will be an effective core member of the Breast Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, acting as an expert practitioner within the breast team demonstrating highly developed specialist knowledge in the management of patients with breast diseases and their physical and emotional care.  This will include supporting their holistic needs assessments and care plans as they move through their treatments and breast/oncology care pathways and meeting the personalised care agenda. Will have the ability to manage complex patients and their complex needs. This will ensure patients are able to make informed decisions about treatments offered to them. You will be a highly skilled practitioner acting as a specialist resource to support the team.  The post holder will also contribute to the day to day running within Thirlestaine Breast Centre, support changes to our services within the surgical division and wider developments within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.  

Working hours are 37.5 hours a week (Monday to Friday) either over 4 or 5 days a week.

 

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity is available at Thirlestaine Breast Centre to be a Breast Nurse Specialist.

We are looking for a motivated breast nurse specialist  to join the Breast Care Nursing Team to develop their clinical and professional practice along with leadership and management experiences.

Key aspects of the role include:

- Excellent communication skills and self -awareness for your own and others well-being.

- An effective core member of the breast multidisciplinary team (MDT).

- To act as an expert practitioner within the breast team demonstrating highly developed specialist knowledge in the management of patients with breast diseases and their physical and emotional care.

- To support holistic needs assessments and care plans as patients move through the breast/oncology care pathways in order to meet the personalised care agenda.

- The post holder will also contribute to the day to day running of Thirlestaine Breast Centre and will support changes to the service within the surgical division and wider developments in the Trust.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and clinical experience
  • Advanced Communication skills course
Desirable criteria
  • Level 7 Post Graduate Diploma/Masters Degree within relevant speciality or commitment to work towards
  • Recognised management/leadership course or equivalent level of skill gained through experience or commitment to work towards

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Specialist clinical skills and experience within specialist area (Cancer/Breast Care)
  • Evidence of change management, leadership and innovation
  • Previous experience as a Band 6 CNS (1 year minimum)
  • Evidence of managing cancer patients complex needs
  • Evidence of policy development and implementation

Knowledge/ Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to manage and prioritise own workload autonomously
  • Personally resilient and able to manage complexity and work in a changing environment
  • Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Acts as a role model and are able to lead by example to ensure the Trust's values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice
