Job overview

We are recruiting for a Senior Clinical Support Worker in the Pre-Op Assessment Unit who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. 

You will play a pivotal role in reducing healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) and maintaining the highest standards of care for our patients awaiting elective surgery.

You must be enthusiastic, self-motivated and flexible in your approach to work and computer literacy is necessary, as your duties will include data entry.

You will also be working with an experienced team keen to offer you support, help and guidance at any time.

Main duties of the job

You will have the responsibility of assisting patients with their pre-operative health screening and obtaining the necessary requested clinical test and investigations prior to the patients scheduled elective admission and surgery.  You will collaborate with the unit manager and other pre-operative assessment colleagues to ensure the continuous progress and improvement of the service.

You should possess outstanding teamwork skills and the ability to communicate effectively with the public and all members of the multidisciplinary team. This position requires exceptional written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and excellent interpersonal skills. Enthusiasm, self-motivation, and flexibility are key qualities necessary for this role. Furthermore, proficiency in computer literacy is essential as the job involves various data entry tasks.

Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Essential to have your NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent
  • Good basic education
  • NVQ level 2 qualification
  • Good computer literacy skills
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ 3

Previous Experience

  • Previous experience working in a health care setting

  • Currently working in an acute clinical environment

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of good communication skills and ability to engage and promote good working relationships at all levels
  • Ability to communicate in a variety of settings with patients of varying levels of understanding
  • Understanding of quality and change in the clinical setting
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Lorenzo database or equivalent EPR system. Ability to interoperate and analyse straightforward tabula and graphical information

  • Basic understanding of current NHS issues
  • Awareness of strategies for maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors
