Job overview

Are you due to qualify as a Registered Nurse in 2024? If so, East and North Herts NHS Trust may have the opportunity you have been looking for! We have a number of opportunities across East and North Hertfordshire NHS trust, for enthusiastic and committed Newly Registered Nurses.

We are in the top three NHS hospital groups in the East of England for size, so, you’ll work with a great mix of patients.

We have close working links with the University of Hertfordshire and Cambridge University, as well as being a founding member of the
Eastern Academic Health Sciences Network. We have specialties that are not found normally at a general hospital, including cardiology, renal
and robotic urology – this means that your new role will be really interesting and there are great opportunities to learn new skills.

As a trust we continually invest in growing and developing our staff to support them in providing the best possible care to our patients. As a Newly Registered Nurse joining the trust you will automatically be enrolled in our 12 month preceptorship programme. This is an established preceptorship scheme designed around your continuous development with nursing skills, leadership, values and the importance of care and compassion. This will include the support of an allocated preceptor through the preceptorship period.

Our Values are Include, Respect and Improve. It is important that you understand and refer to our values during your recruitment process and beyond!

Main duties of the job

You will be required to complete a full application with personal statement, sit an formal interview and assessment process.

As a newly registered nurse you will participate as a member of the nursing team to provide a high standard of research based care, support the team of staff working in the area to deliver a quality service which is linked to high standard of patient care and support the Sisters / Charge Nurses and Senior Sister / Charge Nurse in the training and development of junior staff.

In return we will offer you:

  • An on-site dedicated and professional non-medical education team to support you as you progress through your nursing career including a continuing professional development lead, responsible for staff development.
  • A Band 5 to Band 6 fast-track scheme which gives our Band 5 nurses all the skills and competencies they need to enable them to be ready for Band 6 opportunities that arise, with full training to support this development.
  • An annual appraisal scheme.
  • Commitment and participation in a clinical excellence accreditation framework.
  • A Band 5 rotation scheme which can be tailored to meet your needs if you wish

We will be holding a Student Nurse Marketplace event on 17th May 2024 2pm - 4pm at the Lister Education Centre Lister Hospital. This will be an opportunity for you to meet our ward/departments and specialities.

We welcome applicants from students who have been on placement with ENHT and those that have not.

Working for our organisation

At East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, we are proud of the range of general and specialist services we provide and our 6,000 or so dedicated staff ensure our patients get the best care. Our ability to be flexible and innovative in the way in which we work and deliver our services to our catchment has never been more important than it is now.

We run the following hospitals:

  • The Lister Hospital, Stevenage
  • New Queen Elizabeth II (New QEII), Welwyn Garden City
  • Hertford County, Hertford
  • Mount Vernon Cancer Centre (MVCC), Northwood

We have ambitious plans to become an outstanding, patient-led Trust where dedicated staff provide high-quality, compassionate care to our patients.  We continue to undergo significant transformation and our staff and patients are at the heart of delivering this ambitious agenda.

We are committed to a positive work life balance for our employees.  This means that any employee is entitled to seek to work flexible working patterns and we are committed to listen and consider all requests. Such requests, of course, have to be made and considered formally, and will need to be balanced against service needs, but our starting point will always be to find ways to support making them happen.
