Job overview
The post holder carries continuing responsibility for the assessment and delivery of care needs to patients attending ED including resource management of the area, capacity and patient pathways.
They will be expected to provide professional leadership outside the department by actively contributing to Directorate and Trust wide nursing projects. They will be responsible for escalation of issues which will adversely affect performance and problem solve.
Other duties include deployment of nursing staff and teaching of students. They will be an expert resource in all clinical matters.
Main duties of the job
The post holder carries continuing responsibility throughout the 24 hours period for the assessment and delivery of care needs, resource management of the Emergency Department including budgets, capacity and patient pathways. This post also carries continuing responsibility for the management of the department team, including deployment of nursing staff and teaching of students. They will be expected to provide professional leadership outside the department by actively contributing to Directorate and Trust wide nursing projects.

Education and Training
Essential criteria
- Registered General Nurse or equivalent
- Recognised mentorship course (ENB998)
- Post Graduate A&E/Critical Care Qualification
- ALS
- PALS/APLS
- Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of audit or research project.
- Trauma Nursing Care Course
Experience
Essential criteria
- Trauma Nursing Care Course
- Experience within speciality and management experience in acute setting
Desirable criteria
- Attended a clinical leadership programme
- Evidence of implementing change
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Computer literate
- Excellent communication & interpersonal skills
- Teaching and assessing skills
- Competent clinical skills: male catheterisation, cannulation, phlebotomy, ALS, drug administration
- Ability to manage change at ward/department level
- Ability to prioritise own work load and that of other staff
Desirable criteria
- Management training
- IT skills
- HDU course
