Job overview

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and reliable individual to join our closely knit team on Digestive Diseases Unit C2 at Royal Blackburn Hospital as a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse.

C2 is a 26 bedded  Digestive Disease Unit which sits within the directorate of Medicine and Emergency Care. 

Main duties of the job

The role requires working 12 hour shifts covering days, nights and weekends.  You will be familiar with the role and its requirements, deputising for the ward manager in her absence and supporting and developing skills and knowledge of junior staff.  You must be motivated and enthusiastic, able to adapt quickly to changing needs of patients and the ward, be flexible and hard-working, working autonomously as well as part of the team.  If you think you would like the challenge and career development a Band 6 can offer then please apply.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will need to have a strong interest in  Digestive Diseases and a proactive approach to delivering a high standard of evidence based care is essential. You must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of current issues in Digestive Diseases and be able to translate this into quality nursing.

We value experience and skills learnt elsewhere and will work with you to enable those skills to be utilised and developed further. 

There are also managerial duties such as audits, appraisals, training, managing roster changes, incident reporting and investigating.

As a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse you will assist in promoting change and developing the unit.

You will be responsible for leading the team, and the co-ordination. Thus, includes supervising and coaching junior staff, support clinical ward rounds in addition to carrying out excellent patient care. 

You will be supported by an excellent and approachable team including The  Matron, Ward Manager, Senior Sisters, and Practice Educator.
