Job overview

Our department covers and provides a service to a population of approximately 450,000 residents, increasing during our busy holiday seasons.  The learning and development opportunities are vast with dedicated training and development nurses based in the department. We offer both internal and external courses to help you to develop to your full potential in Emergency Nursing. We consider the Department to be an innovative, creative and friendly environment for those nurses who wish to provide high quality patient centred care.  Our team is multi-disciplinary including Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Emergency Nurse Practitioners, Mental Health Liaison, Emergency Department Assistants, Assistant Practitioners, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Medical Staff, Ward Clerk, Housekeeper, Volunteers and a team of over 90 registered nurses. Fully rotational to a variety of shifts including night duty is a requirement of the post.

 

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit a  full time Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurses for our busy and transforming Emergency Department.    As a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse you will manage the ED to ensure safe staffing, co-ordination and practice promoting the Trust’s Vision and Values within self and others. Lead on and ensure all training needs of the staff within ED are met, coordinated, maintained within policies and standards to promote high quality care.

 

Although full time is preferred part time hours may be considered.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RGN
  • 1st Level degree or working towards it ALS certificate
  • Safeguarding children level 3 ENB 998/NST 307 ENB 199 or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Management Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post registration in the speciality and worked as band 6 in speciality
  • Clinical credibility – regarded as a successful clinician by peers or supervisors
  • Experience of co-ordinating and leading A&E, to manage service developments
  • Management/treatment of Minor injuries/ ailments
  • Understanding the role of research and development activities in A&E and upon Clinical Effectiveness
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of the current issues affecting A&E services including Clinical Governance and the NHS Plan Effective leadership skills
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching and presenting lectures to staff
  • Experience in completing and presenting research
