Theatre Practitioner-Scrub

NHS AfC: Band 5

Job overview

Band  5 Theatre Scrub Practitioners required

Full time 37.5 hours per week,  part time may be considered.

Previous applicants need not apply.

Due to the continued success of our theatre time management, we are looking to recruit dynamic, forward thinking, team-oriented and experienced band 5 practitioners into a Scrub Practitioner role.

Previous scrub experience is essential.

A 12-month secondment would be considered for internal applicants who may be interested. Please seek approval from your current line manager prior to applying.

The Trust appreciates and values the contribution international nurses bring to the NHS. We also understand the support overseas nurses need to gain full registration once in the UK (via OSCE) and therefore we only recruit internationally to fill nursing vacancies when we can ensure support is in place. At this present time we aren’t in a position to offer that support and therefore will not accept applications from overseas nurses who only have Part 1 NMC registration. If that position changes in future we will clearly advertise our opportunities for international nurses to join our nurse team here in Bolton. Thank you for your understanding.

Main duties of the job

We are currently recruiting qualified operating department practitioners and nurses to work in our busy theatre department which covers a wide range of specialities including general surgery, trauma and elective orthopaedics, oncoplastics, breast, gynaecology, obstetrics, ENT and oral maxillofacial surgery.

You must be highly motivated, with a forward thinking attitude, and will join an innovative and pro-active team.  Using evidence based practice, you will provide safe, individual care to patients, to excellent standards. You will be a registered nurse with current NMC registration, a qualified Operating Department Practitioner with HCPC registration, a Student Nurse or Student ODP.

The post-holder will be expected to be flexible to respond to change and organisational needs. There is a requirement to work flexible hours over the 24 hour day, including weekends and on call rota.

Working for our organisation

Our scrub teams have the opportunity to learn new skills and procedures, in a supportive, professional, safety orientated environment.
Whether you are just setting out on your career or are experienced with transferable skills we would like to talk to you about the opportunities to join us and care for our patients at a vulnerable time in their lives and to provide optimised patient outcomes every time. In return for your commitment, enthusiasm and dedication we will provide you with the technical skills and provide one to one support from our dedicated Practice Education team. Regular skills training is provided around our audit time, alongside the opportunity to gain a mentorship qualification, to support our student nurses and ODPs in their learning. An annual appraisal will enable you to direct your own learning and professional interests.

As an organisation we are committed to placing the patient at the heart of everything we do and in the provision of safe, effective patient care that acknowledges and ensures dignity. With this in mind we are seeking to recruit staff who share the organisation’s values and beliefs. The department has an excellent recruitment and retention rate, which reinforces the supportive team approach to our staff.
