Job overview

This job vacancy is for a health care support worker to work in a busy Surgical Day Theatre and Outpatient department. Within your role, you will be working as part of a small multi skilled team.

You will work under the direction of our trained practitioners, but will be required to use your own initiative when leading a specialised outpatient clinic.

 

Main duties of the job

This position involves working alongside the departments qualified practitioners to deliver holistic care to the patients within our outpatient and day surgery departments.

You will be required to undertake basic observations of our patients prior to their outpatient appointments, this may include taking a patients height, weight, blood pressure and pulse. You will manage the outpatient clinic, ensuring that patients are seen in a timely manner and are kept up to date with the flow of clinic times. You will be expected to act as chaperone for the patient and consultant and assist with physical examinations and procedures, relating to the speciality of the clinic. It will be your responsibility to ensure that you keep accurate records of all you do for the patient. 

As pert of your role, it will be expected that you will train up in phlebotomy and deliver this services within 4 months of starting the post. All training will be provided and all competencies signed off in house.

You will work within the theatre department assisting staff nurses in the unit to pre assess patients to ensure they are suitable to have surgery within this department. On the day of the patient's surgery you will assist in preparing them for theatre and their aftercare on the unit before their discharge home. You will also assist the clinical team with follow up appointments for our patients post surgery.
