Paediatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner x 2
Band 8a
The post holder will be able to autonomously undertake assessment and treatment of paediatric patients in the Paediatric Emergency Department who present with an illness and/or injury; to determine a clinical diagnosis, treatment and appropriate discharge within their professional boundaries and in line with training, skills and competencies.
The post holder will be a source of clinical expertise to less experienced staff, enhancing the teams’ skills and knowledge, and work in partnership within a multi-disciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
Will be able to autonomously see and treat children presenting to the emergency department with illness and/or injuries
Take a comprehensive history from the presenting patient and/or accompanying carer/relative as appropriate
Undertake a complete physical examination relevant to the presenting complaint
Be able to formulate a differential diagnosis and order further appropriate investigations as required
Be competent in interpreting results of investigations ordered e.g. blood tests and x-rays
Work towards a prescribing qualification or be able to prescribe medication for patients as needed in line with the Trust’s prescribing guidelines
Discharge patients home with a complete plan of care and ensure safety net information given and understood
Refer patients on for further investigations/opinion as needed. Liaise with the Emergency Department and/or speciality teams within Croydon Health Care as required
Liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinary team members as needed

- Experience of independently discharging minor illnesses and injuries
- Experience of Paediatric ED/ Paediatric Critical Care Environment
- Evidence of teaching and mentoring junior staff
- Evidence of undertaking clinical audits
- Evidence of up to date knowledge of DOH and NICE guidelines
- Mentorship Qualification
Desirable criteria
- Aware of current clinical and managerial trends and issues relating to paediatric nursing and safeguarding.
- Evidence of knowledge of use of IT/library searches
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
